Um, Do Cell Phones Really Cause Brain Cancer?

August 22nd, 2009 by fts

One prominent doctor and director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, sent a memo to employees warning them to use hands free headsets as opposed to cell phone use due to “growing evidence that we should reduce exposure” to cell phone radiation.

He believes there is an increased risk for brain cancer, so do many others.

Five months later, a top official at the National Cancer Institute (NCI)confessed to a a congressional panel that published scientific data indicates cell phones are safe.

So what’s up? What’s the truth? Do Cell phones cause cancer or not?

It depends on who you talk to.

Herberman says, “Long term and frequent use of cell phones which receive and emit radio frequency may be associated with an increased risk of brain tumors,” Herberman told lawmakers. “I find the old adage ‘better to be safe than sorry’ to be very apt to this situation.”

Hoover, on the other hand, insisted that the pervasive technology was safe, testifying that “its effect on the body appears to be insufficient to cause genetic damage.”

The talk about cell phones and radiation have been around for a while.

Cell phones use non-ionizing radiation, which differs from the ionizing radiation of x-rays and radioactive material in that it does not have enough energy to knock around—or ionize—electrons or particles in atoms. Cell phone radiation falls into the same band of nonionizing radio frequency as microwaves used to heat or cook food. But Jorn Olsen, chair of epidemiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Public Health says that unlike microwaves, cell phones do not release enough radiation or energy to damage DNA or genetic material, which can lead to cancer.

Recent research suggests, however, that although short-term exposure is harmless, long-term cell phone use may be a different story.

There have been over 3 studies since 1999 (probably more), and they indicate that people who have used cell phones for more than a decade may have as much as three times greater risk of developing brain tumors on the side of the head against which they most often hold their phone—an argument for, at the least, shifting ears regularly or, even better, using an earpiece or the speakerphone feature while chatting.

“For people who’ve used their cell phones for more than 10 years and who use their phone on the same side as the tumor, it appears there’s an association,” Lawrie Challis, emeritus physics professor at the University of Nottingham in England and former chairman of the U.K.’s Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research program, told ScientificAmerican.com during a recent interview.

To get started, you need to select a site that provides this feature. Now, you’ll find several that promise free reverse phone lookups, but they only work on landline numbers. Another reason to use free reverse cell phone lookup

Is there jealousy within your relationship? It is a fact that one partner becomes jealous of another at some point in their relationship; no matter how long you have been together.

This is a sad fact and if you’re jealous and suspicious of your partner then there may be an easy way to find out if something untoward is happening within your relationship.

The good news is there are websites which claim to offer large numbers of cell phone numbers, but they are not free. These websites naturally have to pay for access to some of this information, and go to the considerable trouble of pulling all the various resources together in one place, and as a result you will be charged a small fee before you can access the lookup databases. However the fee is a one-off payment and with some websites you can run as many searches as you like once you have access, with others they offer a single lookup for a lower fee. The records they claim to offer include cell owner details, address history, carrier details, and the phone connection status. It is also worth noting that the databases offered by each company differ to some degree, but most include cell phones and often residential, business, toll-free, even pagers, and these websites say your searches are guaranteed legal and confidential.

In addition to reverse lookups there are also similar websites which offer access to information such as background checks and background reports, people finder databases, bankruptcies, liens, public records databases including births, deaths, marriages, divorces and adoptions, sex offender records, police records, and much more. These sites operate in the same way, offering access to specific types of information for a set fee, however it should be noted that you will not receive access to such information as part of your cell phone lookup site membership.

You could use a free reverse cell phone number lookup to find out if your partner has been using their cell phone to ring other people that they shouldn’t be calling. You can find the number and find out who it belongs to without even having to ring the number yourself.
